Protectionism works in early stage but backfires badly afterwards. Seems to me US is courting the backfire potential. This is admission of a weakness that maybe because there is a  lot of crappy tech

It takes an amazing degree of naiveite to believe that the Silicone Valley crowd opposes TikTok (or anything else from China) for national security reasons. We are sliding down a protectionist/industrial policy sloop that will increasingly damage us over time. Determining true security risks is a tricky business but any such findings and proposed remedies must apply to all app, whether from China, Silicone Valley or wherever. I hope that America (my team) wins all races, but by being better, not by playing dirty.  Their self interest is blatantly obvious.
